About Me

Faye Farmer, PhD

You carry the ideas that shape what’s next—I help ensure they take root. For 20 years, I’ve been privileged to work side by side with faculty, learning how they work, lifting up their words, and guiding their vision onto the page. I’ve worked with individuals and large teams, on everything from seedling projects to multi-million-dollar career-makers. My proposal support is extensive:

  • Served as primary proposal manager to 27 proposals since 2010, worth  $770M, and awarded $193M since 2015
  • Managed an office that submitted $200M (2015) to $780M (2023) in proposals
  • Supported the full proposal for a mid-scale research infrastructure - 2 program
  • Supported the whole cycle (limited submission through award setup) of ASU's second Engineering Research Center (2015)
  • Experience with the following sponsors: HUD, NSF, NIH, DOE,  Simons Foundation, NIST, CDC, & USAID

I've championed research development as a practitioner, peer mentor, presenter, and board member of the professional organization. Professionally, I founded two research development offices and helped define a few more. I bring that "in the trenches" experience to every project. I have contributed in the following ways:

  • Presented seven times at the National Organization of Research Development Professionals (NORDP) conferences since 2017
  • NORDP Board member 2019 - 2023
  • Presented the NORDP Leader Award (2023) and NORDP's Holly Falk-Krzesinski Service Award (2024)
  • Presented on ASU's concurrent support of three full proposals to the National Science Foundation (NSF) Engineering Research Center (ERC) program (ASEE, 2016), which informed the ERC planning grant program

Working in support of higher education is a calling for me. I've personally experienced and witnessed the power of a thriving academic research enterprise. I was so inspired by my work on making research more accessible to faculty that I examined research collaboration strategies among first-generation college graduate faculty members in my dissertation.
